Structured Day
Up to 19 children participate in a well-structured day which prepares them for primary school. Detailed project work is complemented by organised themes including art, science, technology and cooking. We also ensure that children are able to cope with dressing and undressing themselves, being at ease with adults, and able to answer questions and express themselves within a group. Daily observations are recorded on each child.
Getting Ready for School
Children will also be able to recognise and write their own name, begin to understand numbers, plus using pencil, scissors and art materials confidently. Most of all they will be happy, secure children ready for the challenge of school. We provide a maths table, a science table, a writing table, book corner, messy table and a role play corner, along with a computer, all to stimulate learning.
Curriculum Areas
Part of each morning is spent in small key groups with structured activities covering all of the six curriculum areas:
Personal, social and emotional development
Communication, language and literacy
Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy
Knowledge and understanding of the world
Physical development
Creative development
There are also opportunities for free play when children learn about co-operating, sharing and making decisions.
Outside Play
Outside in our garden, we have lots of exciting opportunites to have fun including adventure play equipment, a large Wendy house, bikes, scooters and cars. Children have plenty of opportunities for free play, under supervision.
We also have a vegetable patch and the whole garden is surrounded by mature trees.
